General Discount Information for Canadian Seniors

Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) membership – CARP is an exclusive association for Canadians age 50 and above. With an annual fee of $19.95, CARP members gain access to great benefits which includes discounts in many different stores, hotels, and etc. Discounts requiring CARP membership will be indicated down below (source).

Always ask: Senior’s discounts are not always openly advertised. It is recommended that you ask about whether or not the store offers the discount every time you make a purchase.

Be prepared: Always have your government-issued identification on you to prove your senior status.

We wanted to make it easier for you to determine your eligibility. That is why this Canadian Seniors Discount Guide is organized by the following age categories: age not specified, 50 and older, 55 and older, 60 and older, 62 and older, and 65 and older.

Retail Discounts for Canadian Seniors

Carlton Cards: Carlton Cards offers a 10% senior’s discount on all purchases every day (source).

Cloverdale Paints: Cloverdale Paints offers a senior’s discount of 25% any day on paint and 15% off tools and accessories (source).

Home Depot: Home Depot offers senior’s discounts for eligible customers at the manager’s discretion (source).

Home Hardware: Home Hardware offers a 10% discount to seniors at select locations (source).

Rexall Pharma PlusRexall Pharma Plus offers a 20% senior’s discount every Tuesday. Exclusions apply (source).

Value Village: Value Village offers a senior’s discount for customers age 55 and above. Discounts range between 20-40% depending on store location (source).

50 and older

Rona: Rona offers a 10% senior’s discount to customers age 50 and older. The offer is valid every first Tuesday of each month at participating store locations only. (source).

55 and older

Lawtons Drugs: Seniors age 55 and older are eligible to receive a 20% discount from Lawton’s Drugs. The offer is available one day every month in all store locations (source).

Reno Depot: Reno Depot offers 10% off everything in store for seniors age 55 and above. Offer stands every first Tuesday of the month (source).

60 and older

Giant Tiger. Giant Tiger holds monthly Senior Discount days for customers age 60 and above. Discount dates and rates varies by store (source).

Goodwill: Goodwill offers a senior’s discount to customers 60 years old and above. Available in participating locations only (source).

Pet Valu: Pet Valu offers a 10% discount on regular-priced items to age-eligible seniors every last Thursday of the month (source).

Salvation Army Thrift Stores: Salvation Army Thrift Stores offer a 10% senior’s discount on all items. Senior’s discounts are available every day but cannot be combined with other offers (source).

65 and older

Shoppers Drug Mart: Shoppers Drug Mart offers a 20% discount to all seniors age 65 and older with a personal Shoppers Optimum card. This special discount is available every last Thursday of the month (source).

Transportation Discounts for Canadian Seniors

Avis: CARP members are eligible to claim a 25% discount on Avis base rates. Simply use Avis Worldwide Discount (AWD) number C744400. (source).

Remorquage Edmundston Towing: Seniors receive a 15% discount on towing services when they present their valid ID. For inquires, call +1 506-353-9111 or message them on Facebook (source).

Budget: Budget offers CARP members up to 25% off Budget base rates for vehicle rental. Available in participating US and Canada locations only (source).

First Air: First Air offers reduced ticket prices for seniors. Terms and conditions apply. (source).

Hertz: Hertz’ 50 Plus Car Rental Program offers discounted rates and exclusive rental deals to customers age 50 and above.  (source).

60 and older

Amtrak: Amtrak passengers age 60 and above can avail of a 10% senior’s discount on select cross-border services. Restrictions apply (source).

Via Rail: Via Rail offers a 10% senior’s discount for passengers age 60 and above, and an additional 10% can be claimed for CAA card owners. Restrictions apply (source).

British Columbia Transportation System: British Columbia offers a reduced-cost bus pass program for seniors age 60 and above. Certain restrictions apply. (source).

62 and older

Greyhound: Greyhound offers a 5% discount on passenger fares to seniors aged 62 and above with valid photo identification as proof of age (source).

65 and older

Amtrak: Amtrak offers a 10% senior’s discount on most rail fares for passengers age 65 and above. Restrictions apply (source).

Calgary Transit: Seniors age 65+ are eligible to apply for Calgary Transit’s Regular Senior Yearly Pass and Low Income Seniors Yearly Pass (source).

Go Transit: For passengers age 65 and above, a single-ride fare is half the adult single-ride fare (source).

Toronto Transit Commission: TTC offers discounted fares and passes for seniors 65+ (source).

Ottawa Transit: Ottawa Transit offers free rides for seniors age 65 and above every Wednesday. Discounted monthly pass and lower cash and PRESTO e-purse fares also available (source).

St. John’s Metrobus: St. John’s Metrobus offers discounted rates on their 10-ride pass and monthly/30 day pass to seniors age 65 and above (source).

Winnipeg Transit: Winnipeg Transit offers discounted fare rates for seniors age 65 or older. A valid identification card must be shown to the operator when boarding (source).

Bank Discounts for Canadian Seniors


55 and older

BMO Bank of Montreal: Qualify for the Senior Plan by providing proof of age during registration in a BMO Bank of Montreal branch (source).

60 and older

BMO Bank of Montreal: BMO Premium Plan users automatically receive a senior discount ($13.95 discount on monthly plan fee) when they turn 60 years old (source)

National Bank: National Bank’s PERSPECTIVE benefit package for seniors over age 60 has recently been replaced with MODEST™. This chequing account requires a $4.95 fixed monthly fee ($5.00 discount). $3,000 minimum monthly balance is required to waive the monthly fee (source).

Scotiabank: All Scotiabank customers age 60 and older can enjoy free or lower monthly fees on Eligible Chequing Accounts like Scotia One™ Account, Basic Banking Account, and Basic Banking Plan. Monthly fees are also waived for Eligible Saving Accounts like U.S. Dollar Daily Interest Account and Euro Daily Interest Savings Account (source).

Toronto Dominion Bank: TD 60 Plus CheckingSM requires $0 monthly maintenance fee plus other extra features and benefits (source).

Royal Bank of Canada: RBC offers a Seniors Rebate on all personal banking accounts for eligible customers age 65 and over (source).

CIBC: Senior customers of CIBC can benefit from discounted or waived monthly fees on CIBC Smart™ Account, CIBC Premium Growth Account™, and CIBC US$ Personal Account. The bank also offers discounts on safety deposit boxes (source).

Best Western: Best Western offers a 10% discount or more on room rates at Best Western® Hotels & Resorts (source).

Sandman Hotels: Sandman Hotels offers a complimentary 55Plus membership redeemable online or by calling 1+800+SANDMAN. Seniors age 55+ can take advantage of Sandman hotels’ year-round preferred rates at all locations in Canada (source).

60 and older

Choice Hotels: Choice Hotels offer special rates and amenities for senior travelers age 60 and above.Save 10% on hotel room rates by booking online or calling 800-4CHOICE (source).

62 and older

Hyatt Hotels: Seniors age 62 and above can get discounts upon check-in by showing proof of age in participating Hyatt hotels and resorts in Canada (source).

InterContinental Hotels Group: IHG offers special rates for guests age 62 and older with valid membership ID of a retired persons organization (source).

Marriott: Save 15% or more on your Marriot hotel room by making a reservation online or ask for the senior discount by calling toll-free 1-888-236-2427 (source).

Farm Fresh: Farm Fresh offers a 5% senior’s discount on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Golden Griddle: Golden Griddle offers a 10% senior’s discount (excludes alcohol).

Imperial Buffet: Imperial Buffet offers a 35% senior’s discount Monday to Thursday (lunch and dinner) and Friday (lunch only).

KFC: KFC offers a free small drink with any meal.

Wendy’s: Wendy’s offers a free drink with any meal.

M&M Food Market: Senior citizens who are 60 years old and above can save 10% on all regular priced every Tuesday at M&M Food Market (source).

Canadian War Museum: Visitors age 65 and up are qualified for discounted ticket prices at the Canadian War Museum in Ottowa. Proof of age is required (source).

Cineplex: Senior discount on admission tickets can be is available for those who are 65 years and older (source).

Hockey Hall of Fame: Senior pricing on admission fees is offered to visitors of age 65 and above (source).

Ontario Science Centre: The Ontario Science Centre in Toronto offers $16 admission fee to seniors 65+ (source).

Parks Canada: Parks Canada offers a discounted rate of $8.30 for daily admission fee and $57.90 for a Canada Discovery Pass to seniors 65 years of age and above (source).

The Royal Ontario Museum: The ROM in Toronto offers a discounted rate of $17.00 for general admission tickets to seniors age 65+ with valid identification (source).
